Ayo Animashaun, 45, has built Hip TV into a big brand in eight years. At the celebration of its second year on DSTV yesterday, he says the channel is a product of anger and passion.
Yesterday, November 5, 2015 marked the 2nd anniversary of urban music channel Hip TV’s debut on DSTV. The company’s founder, Ayo Animashaun tells NET how he built HipTV into one of the leading music channels in Africa. ‘We wanted to be ‘THAT’ music channel that everyone watches’, he told our correspondent. ‘I started Hip TV eight years ago, with a lot of dedication, a lot of commitment, a lot of ‘ANGER’ and passion. We wanted to absolutely KILL it in the entertainment scene.’ Hip TV was a scheduled programme on terrestrial TV stations for six years before launching on cable platforms DSTV and GOTV two years ago. In a market dominated by big players like MTV Base, Trace and Soundcity, it’s impressive that Hip TV has grown to become a force to reckon with, in just 24 months. And Animashaun, who’s also the brain behind The Headies, says they’re just beginning....
